Last-Minute Halloween in Marin and SF: Backyard and Church Lot Options
Last updated: October 2026
Quick Answer
Halloween 2026 is Saturday, October 31. In San Rafael, Novato, Mill Valley and San Francisco the deciding factor is almost never the yard's total size, it is access and grade: how the unit reaches the space, and whether the space is level enough to anchor. A hillside yard with one flat terrace and a side gate wide enough to pass through will often take a unit that a bigger, steeper yard cannot. Call or book online to check open dates.
The goal on Halloween is not a big inflatable. It is keeping a dozen costumed kids in one spot long enough for the adults to get food out and the parade organized, in a house that was not built with a party lawn. Marin and San Francisco properties make that a measuring problem rather than a budget problem, and it is a measuring problem with four or five answers.
Access Decides the Unit, Not the Yard Size
Three measurements settle most North Bay bookings. The first is the narrowest point on the path in: the side gate, the walkway between the house and the fence, or the doorway a unit has to be carried through. The second is the flat area at the end of that path, measured as a rectangle rather than as a yard. The third is the distance to a working outlet, because every blower needs its own and most homes run 15 or 20 amp circuits.
Grade is the quiet one. A yard that reads as flat from the kitchen window often has a few degrees of fall across it, and a few degrees is the difference between a unit that sits square and one that pulls to a corner all afternoon. If the yard is terraced, the usable space is the single widest terrace, not the sum of them. Stairs are workable as long as somebody knows about them before the truck is loaded.

Saturday the 31st is the fifth and last Saturday in October, and the next one falls on November 7. That is the whole urgency story: there is one Halloween Saturday, and the weekend around it runs Friday the 30th through Sunday the 1st.
Four Setups That Work for Small Yards and Church Lots
1. The narrow side gate
Most San Francisco and Mill Valley yards are reached through a gate or a path between buildings, and that pinch point caps the unit size regardless of what waits at the other end. Measure the gate opening at its narrowest, including any latch hardware that sticks into the gap, and measure the headroom if the path runs under a deck or an eave.
2. Hillside yards and the flattest terrace
A sloped Marin County lot usually has one patch of genuinely level ground, often a patio or a cut terrace. That is the setup area. Measure it as a rectangle, note the surface, and note whether the downhill edge has a drop or a railing, because that determines which direction the entry can face.
3. Shared and tandem parking areas
Church lots and small private lots in San Rafael and Novato work well for trunk-or-treats, with two caveats. The unit has to sit where it is not blocked in by cars that will leave mid-event, and it has to be weighted rather than staked because the surface is asphalt. Decide the car flow first, then place the inflatable at the end of the line.
4. Carry-in access over stairs
Plenty of Marin County and San Francisco yards sit a flight up or a flight down from the street. That is a normal delivery, not an obstacle, as long as the stair count and the turn at the landing are known in advance. What makes it a problem is finding out on the morning of the party.
Why Marin and San Francisco Hosts Choose Astro Jump
Three things keep Marin County and San Francisco hosts coming back, and all three are about removing a decision from your Saturday morning.
Early arrival, written into the booking. On a tight access route, setup takes longer than it does on an open lawn, and that time has to come out of our morning rather than out of your party.
We guarantee early delivery, or your money back.
Paperwork a church or school office can file. Community venues across Marin County and San Francisco ask for documentation before anything inflatable goes on their property, and they usually ask with a short deadline. Ours is current and goes out on request.
Fully insured: general liability, workers' comp, and auto.
A kit for open-ground sites. An event on asphalt or bare ground needs the anchoring and the cord management as much as it needs the unit, and those are the pieces nobody remembers until the wind picks up.
Park Party Package: a free park-ready kit of stakes, tarps, cords, anchors and park contacts, or a free generator if your site needs one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will a bounce house fit in a small Marin backyard?
Usually, if the flat part of it is a clean rectangle and the path in is wide enough. Send the three numbers that decide it: the narrowest point on the way in, the length and width of the level area, and the distance to an outlet. Smaller footprints exist for exactly this, and a yard that fits one of those is far more common than a yard that fits nothing.
Can you get a unit through a narrow side gate or up stairs?
Both are routine deliveries when they are known at booking. Measure the gate at its narrowest point, count the stairs, and mention any sharp turn at a landing or any low eave over the path. That information changes which unit we load, which is why it belongs on the booking rather than in a conversation on the driveway.
What if my yard slopes?
A slight grade is fine. A pronounced one is not, because the unit will settle downhill and the entry stops sitting square. Look for the flattest terrace, patio or deck-adjacent pad and measure that instead of the whole yard, and tell us the surface so the right anchoring comes with it.
